More About The Site
Although the causes of osteoporosis continue to remain a mystery, researchers and scientists have made advances in the treatment of the disease. Characterized by the loss of bone density and strength, osteoporosis is associated with many bone fractures that occur, particularly in individuals ages 45 and older.
As of January 2008, according to the Department of Health, over 24 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis; with over 80% of those afflicted, being women. Additionally, annually, 1.3 million bone fractures occur as a result of osteoporosis. The National Organization for Osteoporosis states that one in two women and one in four men over 50 will eventually suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture, which can cause pain and disability as well as death.
